"Being" - the thing we humans need to do best!  Instead of "doing" all the time.  We are "human beings," not "human doings."  God desires for us to be with Him, not do with Him.  He wants us to spend time with Him, getting to know Him better, enjoying His companionship, being best friends and, like best friends, sometimes to communicate without words.  Remember when you were first "in love"?  The moments the two of you would spend just being together. . . sitting side-by-side on a hill marveling at the stars . . . walking on a deserted sandy beach holding hands . . . or just gazing into each other's eyes- all without saying a word.  Silence speaks volumes in a relationship that's intimate.  This is the love relationship we should have with our Lord.  God desires such a relationship with each one of us.

Not only does God want such a relationship with us, He also pursues this relationship.  That's how badly He wants it.  That's how important it is to Him!  He doesn't just leave it all up to us, I'm sure He knew we'd botch it, so He takes the initiative.  He makes the first move, takes the first step, holds out His nail-scarred hand first . . . for us to take.  God doesn't give up on us either.  He will also make the second move, and take the third step and offer His hand a fourth time.  He will never give up on us.  He loves us so!

Jesus stands at the door and knocks . . . there is no door knob on His side of the door.  The handle is on the inside.  We, only, can open the closed door to our heart.  But Jesus will not stop knocking, asking to come in and commune with us.  His knock is gentle; He does not pound His fists upon the door.  He just persistently knocks, asking to be let in, into our hearts, into our lives.  All He wants is to come in and be with us, to sit down and rest in our home, in our hearts, to take up residence in our lives.   He desires to share himself with us, to converse with us, to visit, to talk as if to His best friend, to offer solace, comfort, peace when we're troubled; to offer everlasting arms with which to hold us when we're weary; to offer advice and hope when  we're despairing and depressed, to tie the knot for us to hold onto when we're at the end of our rope.  He wants to give us companionship when we're lonely; healing when we're sick or in pain.  And most of all He wants to saturate our whole being with His perfect unconditional love, to hold us in His warm embrace, to gently wipe away our tears  and rock us to sleep with a beautiful love song He's written just for us.  For He is our Father, a loving, comforting, holy Father who loves His children above all else.  All He needs is for us to accept what He longs to give freely, to open the door, take hold of His hand, and welcome Him in.

He knocks . . . will you open?  Will you open the door to your life and let Him come in and just be with you?
