Dangling On the Edge

Why does God always have to push us to the edge?
What an amazing question!
But is is really God – or do we push ourselves to the edge
Over and over again?
We walk along, down the right pathway, skipping or
Running now and then and usually everything’s ok,
But occasionally, we wander away . . .
In our ignorance and human curiosity
We wander too far away . . . to the edge!
So God tells us come on up to the edge.
We want to be close, but not too close.
We want to wander from the path now and then,
But we still want it in sight.
Yes, we want our cake and we want to eat it, too.
So God says, “Step right up to the edge.”
But we say, “I’m scared.”
“Come on,” God says, “get closer, right on up to the edge.”
“I can’t.  I don’t know how.  I’m too scared.  I’m not ready.
I’m not prepared.  I don’t know how.
The cliff’s too high.  I might fall.”
But God takes us by the hand and leads us to the edge.
And there we are, dangerously close, teetering on the edge
And then – He pushes us off! ---
And we fly!  “Like wings of eagles He will bear us up.”
Like the mother eagle, who flies below the baby just learning,
She flaps her wings and the air currents keep the baby
From falling till he can fly alone . . .
God will not let us fall,
As long as we call on His name,
Keep our eyes upon His Glory
And put Him first in our lives . . .
He will bear us up . . .
. . . “They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength.
They shall mount up with wings like eagles;
they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.”  Isaiah 40:31.
So go ahead world,
Push me to the edge;
Tempt me with curiosity about what’s on the other side . . .
For the Child of God, the edge has no danger . . .
For I have eagles’ wings!
